Simmie Lee Ward

Simmie was born in Lisman, Alabama, on July 4, 1925 to Simmie Dawson Ruffin and Alma Willis. Simmie, who was affectionately called Suge by her father completed her education in Alabama. She relocated to Chicago, IL at an early age where she married and began a family. She gave her life to Christ and joined New Landmark Baptist church where she was a dedicated member for many years. She began her career at General Electric (G.E) as a line worker for over 20 years until retirement. Simmie raised 6 children as well as having a major hand in raising 4 of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies were gardening and homemaking.

Simmie departed this life at the age of 98 on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:21a.m. She passed peacefully in her home.
She was proceeded in death by her father Simmie Dawson Ruffin, her mother Alma Willis, her husband Earnest Ward, 3 sons Robert Johnson, Earnest Ward, and Darnell Ward. daughter Lavetta Ward, 1 brother Daniel Ruffin, 1 sister Louise Lee, cousin A.C Ruffin, her Aunts Ruby Bunn and Beatrice Young.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Janet Johnson (Ronald), Son David Ward (Cathy), Sister Zella Bowers, Grandchildren Delana Ward, Hakeem Ward (Brenda), Kenyatta Ward, Natholee Ward, Khaleelah Allen and a host of other grandchildren, over 20 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren. Also, Jana Jackson (honorary grandchild) long term best friend Mary, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
