Minnie Hampton Obituary

Minnie (Ruth) Hampton, lovingly known as Ruth, was born on September 13th, 1943, in Midnight Mississippi to Elizabeth and Johnny Sr. Billingsley, both of whom preceded her in death. Born the fourth oldest of twelve children, Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, John L. Billingsley, Johnny Billingsley Jr., and Charles Billingsley, and four sisters, Gracie Addison, Mayola Wheeler, Alberta Billingsley, and Rosie Shields.

Minnie accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Church located in Belzoni, MS. She continued her work for Christ while serving as an active member at Greater St. John Bible Church under the leadership of Rev. Ira J. Acree. She also continued to fellowship with Solomon’s Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Elder Solomon Davis Sr. Ruth attended McNair High School in Belzoni, MS and began her working career in Chicago, IL that spanned over 40 years, after which time she enjoyed time with her family and friends following retirement.

Ruth was united in Holy matrimony to Willie Hampton, who preceded her in death. She bore two children, Bobby Billingsley and Jimmie Billingsley Sr., and lovingly mothered two additional children Willie Lagroan and Bonita Moten, who preceded her in death.

Ruth was a true matriarch to her family, a loving mother and grandmother, and a willing worker for Christ. She was a great sister, aunt, and friend and was known for her big heart and tell it like it is personality. Ruth was a strong woman and would do anything to support and protect her family.

Ruth departed from this life on Tuesday March 28th, 2023 at 3:15 pm, at West Suburban Medical Center in the comfort and company of her family.
