Mildred was born on April 1, 1940, in Oran, Missouri, the eldest of four children born to the union of Ivory and Mary Alice Howlett. She later became the proud mother of five wonderful children, whom she raised with strength, love, and unwavering dedication.
At the age of 33, she surrendered her life to Christ at Holy Temple COGIC in Culp IL, under the leadership of the late Pastor Russell Massey. Upon returning to Chicago, she became a devoted member of Unity COGIC, pastored by the late Elder Joseph Gordon, where she was affectionately known for many years as “Sister Howlett #2.” She later united with Emmanuel COGIC under the late Pastor Dr. C.C. Owens, and eventually joined Redeemed Tabernacle COGIC under the late Pastor Dr. Charles B. Garrett Sr. There, she was elevated to Mother of the Church and lovingly became known as Mother Howlett.
She worked faithfully in many roles throughout her career, serving as an Administrative Assistant at John A. Logan College for 10 years and later as the receptionist at the Nia Comprehensive Center For Developmental Disabilities for more than twenty years.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Ivory Howlett (xxx); her children Bobby Walker (Shelly) of Nashville, TN; Angela Walker of Los Angeles, CA; Randy Walker of Chicago, Il; Marcell Chapman of Storm Lake, IA; Darren Chapman of Mesquite, TX; her grandchildren JonMichael, Tyler, Samuel, Devan, Ryan, Marcel Xavier; her great grandchildren: Madison, Ryland, Ryder; one Aunt Majorie Moses, her nieces Tawayna Howlett; Taron (Rodney) Monroe; her nephew Ronell Howlett; one great niece Laquita (Justin) Rogers; one great nephew Najee Monroe; a multitude of cousins and an overflow of family in Christ.
She was preceded by her parents, her sister Marilyn Howlett; brother Ronald Howlett; her niece Tamara Wright(Tony). Though their absence leaves a void in our hearts, may the cherished memories and love they shared bring comfort and peace knowing their spirit lives on.
