Leonard Dennis Douglas

Mr. Leonard Dennis Douglas was born May 28, 1946, at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana to Morris and Mary C. Douglas. He was the middle of five children. Michael D. Douglas, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Rebecca Grace Duncan and James Thomas Douglas.

Leonard was raised in Portage, Indiana. In 1964 he graduated from Portage High School.

Leonard participated in Cross Country, Basketball and Baseball.

Leonard attended college at Indiana University Northwest Campus in Gary, Indiana and there he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity through the Alpha Chapter and became a Charter Member of the Zeta Chapter at Indiana Northwest Campus. Leonard graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Leonard moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1973 and began his career as a Supervisor at Continental Can Company. With the downsizing of the steel company Leonard transferred to the plastic division in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. He worked with Continental Can Company for 24½ years. In 1998 Leonard began working with Temple Inland Corrugated and Box
Company until his retirement in 2011.

Mr. Douglas Married Erma G. Ewing on 03/27/1987 and to that union he raised Yolanda, Barbara, Cory, and Toni.

On 02/11/1979 Leonard Joined Original Providence Baptist Church where he was rebaptized by Reverend Dr. Edgar Tomason Thornton II.

In 2015 Leonard Joined Wounded Healers Pathway Word Church under the Leadership of Pastor Clarence R. Kelley.

Leonard became an ordained deacon on March 14, 2021. In 2023 Leonard joined New Zion City Missionary Baptist Church where Timothy A. Kelley Sr. is Pastor.

Leonard loved the Lord, his family, his Pastor and church family, and life itself.

Leonard spent a lot of time with his favorite 8-year-old, Kanan driving him to school and picking him up. He also taught Kanan about gardening and how to grow fruits and vegetables.
Leonard has a 1-year-old adorable puppy named Mikey that he loved.

Leonard was preceded in his heavenly transition by his parents, Morris and Mary Douglas, his brother, Michael D. Douglas. Leonard passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois.

Leonard leaves to cherish his memory: Erma, Yolanda, Barbara,Toni (Corey Butler), Cory; one brother, James Thomas Douglas (Shumaine) of Gary, Indiana; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Williams of Gary, Indiana and Rebecca Grace Duncan of San Diego, California, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and wonderful friends (Miguel Velez, Nathaniel Williams, Jeffrey Freeman).
