Mrs. Lelia Kirkland Vaughn was born March 27th 1930 to the union of Burley and Sue Pearl Kirkland in Jefferson County, Alabama both of whom precede her in death.
Lelia was educated within the Jefferson County School district.
Lelia married Mr. Joseph Vaughn on Jan 4th 1951 and later in life met her best friend and life partner Mr. Scott Davis who have both preceded her in death.
Lelia was the life of the party and worked throughout life as barmaid and DJ. She was the best at that. She earned the name of ‘Mississippi Lil”. During her life she shared with us her love of cooking and music. She was always such a lady forever elegant who loved to dress. Some of her nieces and nephews even called her Auntie after five because she was always so jazzy.
Mississippi played her last gig April 16th 2020 at 3:05pm when she was welcomed home to the gates of heaven.
She is preceded in death her parents Burley and Sue Pearl, Five brothers Robert, Burley, Eddie, Willie James and Arthur and one sister Bertha. Brother in-laws William Colbert Sr. and William Thornton Sister in-law Jenny and her only child Irene and son in-law Curtis Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories and love sisters Lillie, Margret and Minnie (Steve),Grandchildren Celestine, Kelvin and Curtis Jr, great grandchildren Shakema, Ricky, Annjoynita “Joyce’, Curtis III and Tashema, Great great grands Jaleila and Trinity. She also leaves behind Along very special friends Honey man, Mary Willis, and Jaedan "Poopie" Colbert with a host nieces and nephews and one special niece Monya Kirkland.
