Idora Smith was born December 1, 1936 in Eutaw, Alabama to the late Josh and Magnolia Rancher. he was one of four children; her brothers John Robertson and Eddie James and her sister, Essie Taylor, preceded her in death. She came from a family that loved God and she accepted Christ at an early age.
Idora (known as Dora) was united in marriage to Jimmie Smith Jr. September 28, 1957. In the 1960s, she and her family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she joined Union Missionary Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Wallace, she served as a faithful member.
Dora worked for the Board of Education as a Head Cook until she retired. She was a loving and protective mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to cook, sew, and garden. She also loved to work out and bike with her grandchildren.
On Friday January 17, 2020 at Alden Nursing Home, God sent His Angels to take her to her Eternal Home to rest peacefully. Dora leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters: Brenda McGruder, Anita Diane (Patrick) Hargrett, Frances Smith, Trixie Smith, two sons: Larry Smith and Lester Smith, five granddaughters, eleven grandsons, one great granddaughter, one great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was LOVED!
