Obituary

Deacon Eloritt Coleman was born September 15, 1939, to the late Lillian Jones and Isaiah Gatewood. He was one of the oldest of eleven children.

Deacon Coleman attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Hollyspring, Mississippi.

Deacon Coleman met and married the love of his life, Lucille Coleman and to this union five children were born, Cleo, Edward, Freddie, Michael, and Jeffrey. Deacon Coleman loved his family.
Deacon Eloritt Coleman later moved to Chicago and joined the First Baptist Church family under the leadership of Rev. F. P. Piper, later Rev 0. E. Piper and the current Pastor Aaron Brasfield, Jr.

Deacon Coleman was a heartfelt praying man, as well as a diligent & faithful servant. He thought he was pretty funny too. He served as a leader in the church and the community until the end. Chairing many Committees and Ministries, including the Men’s Day Committee, the Kitchen Committee-he was a great cook! He served on the Finance Committee, the church Basketball Coach and honorably the FBIC Deacon Board. Deacon Coleman loved his church. He always said, “I wish I could sing because I would tear that song up!”

Deacon Coleman made his transition on January 14, 2022, to be with the Lord.

Deacon Coleman was proceeded in death by his wife Lucille Coleman in April 2020, both parents, sons Cleo & Freddie and siblings Mary Louis, Sylvester, Robert, and Mae Ellen.
Deacon Eloritt Coleman leaves to cherish his memories; Three sons: Edward, Michael, and Jeffrey; Six sisters Fannie J. Stephen (Thearchie), Evelyn Shields (Nemi), Ardelia Briggs (Tommy), Charetta Harris (Louis), Rosie Faye Stephens, Mozella Strong. Sister-in-laws, Gladys Jones, Doris Jones, Loriene Charse. Fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, the FBIC family and many many friends.
