Edith Ellis Obituary

Edith Lee Ellis was born in Pittsview, Alabama on October 21, 1931, to John and Ethel Lee Calhoun. 

She departed this life on April 15, 2022.

Edith accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized into the Christian faith, uniting with a local church in Pittsview, AL.  She attended Oliver High School in Seale, AL.

She relocated to Chicago, IL in 1950 uniting with First Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Reverend Preston Floyd.  She served as a Deaconess until her health failed her.

On December 3, 1957, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Lee Ellis and to this union five children were born.  In their wedding vows, Edith promised to love, honor, and obey Robert until death do them part.  She diligently kept her promise for over thirty-one years.

Edith was outgoing and a loveable Queen, patience, and overall kindness.

Edith was a loyal employee at Zenith Electronics in Melrose Park, IL where she retired after 25 plus years of dedicated services.

Her parents John and Ethel Lee Calhoun, Husband Robert Ellis, son James Calhoun, daughter, Wanda Evans, three brothers, Johnnie, Tommie, and Howard Calhoun, two sisters, Gladys Scoggins, Margaret White, one sister in-law, Barbara Calhoun, one brother in-law, Henry White and four stepchildren Franklin Ellis, Steve Ellis, Sandra Lynn Ellis, and Craig Ellis, all preceded her in death.

Edith leaves to cherish in her memory: her children Sharon Harris (Freddie), Brenda of Bloomington, IL, Roger (Margaret), and Carlotta. Stepdaughter, Odessa Hale (Thomas) of Raleigh, Ms. ten grandchildren, Tonya (Andre), Darren, Terrell (Larhonda), Allen, Laquisha, Pierre, Cortez (Shanika), Ebony (Keith), Corey and Michael.  Step grandchildren, Cheryl, Darlene, Delphine, Sandra, Ivy Lee, Deidra, Lori, Vashara, Deandre, Franklin Jr., and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, special thanks to Mary Emeziem, Smurf, John Ellis and the “A block”.
