Doris Tucker was born to Ellis and Lula Bass of Jackson, Mississippi, along with 4 brothers and 3 sisters which both parents and her siblings proceeded her in death.
She attended Grant Elementary School, Crane High School, and took college courses at Luke College. Doris believed education was a key component to a successful life.
She was a community leader, organizer, and advocate. Doris worked for the Board of Elections and was a mother to many in the Lawndale Community.
She enjoyed all genres of music and loved to dance. Family gatherings for backyard barbecues, anniversaries, and major holidays were always celebrated.
Doris worked to help support her large family. She was employed with the Chicago Police Department Records Division. She celebrated her retirement after 38 years of service in 2010.
She was married to Edward E. Tucker, Sr. in January of 1950. To this union 10 children were born, 3 proceeded her in death: Gwendolyn Ann Tucker, Anthony Eugene Tucker, and Edward Earl Tucker, Jr.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory Ronald F. Tucker (Sharon), Michael J. Tucker, Chauncey M. Tucker, Onethia Y. Tucker, Dorothea A. Tucker-Caldwell, Steven C. Tucker (Minyone), and Tamiko I. Williams (Timothy). She leaves an abundant host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as one sibling, Dossie Lee Lackland, many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
