Donald Petross Obituary

Donald Harold Petross Jr. was born on December 22, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois to Donald Harold Petross Sr. and Freddie Maye Petross.

Donald attended Morton Upper Grade Center Elementary School and Westinghouse Vocational High School. At Westinghouse he studied Commercial Art, was a member of the National Honor Society, and played on the football team. He was also crowned Homecoming King in his Senior year.  Donald, and his sister Janice, attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Donald earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1979. While at Platteville he also pledged and became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Eta Beta Chapter.

After graduation he relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where he resided until he went home to be with the Lord. He joined the Clark County District School System as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher and Coach. Donald was a master educator and loved children. They also loved “Mr. P”. Donald obtained a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and received numerous awards throughout his career. He retired in 2014 but continued to coach in the private sector and around Las Vegas in various tournaments.

Donald was a fierce competitor. He shared his passion for bowling with his brother Darryl and his love for fishing with Darryl, Curtis, his best friend since high school, and a host of others. Donald had an unbreakable bond with his Uncle Sonny. They spent countless hours playing dominoes, bid whist and talking sports.

Donald was preceded in death by their loving mother Freddie M. Petross, devoted father Donald H. Petross Sr., their beloved grandmother Pearl Mason, and his aunts Cynthia Craps, Carol Brown, and Ozell Snider.

Donald was a devoted son and brother. He loved his family. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his siblings: Wanda Brooks of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Darryl (Lady Darryl) Petross of Chicago, Illinois, and Janice Petross (James) of Frankfort, Illinois. And his niece and nephews: Aleshia, Donald Darryl, and Lawrence. They will forever keep their beloved brother and uncle in their hearts. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all of whom he loved dearly. And special friends Curtis Malone and Mary “Tutti” Lewis Jackson and his loving girlfriend Sherian McGlothen.
