David Tillman Jr

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Tillman Jr., affectionately known as “Goonie,” who departed this life on July 4, 2026, at the age of 54.

David was born on August 12, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, to Rosezella James and David Tillman Sr. He lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for family. To those who knew him, Goonie was more than a son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend—he was the one who could always make you smile.

Goonie had a larger-than-life personality and an unforgettable sense of humor. His playful spirit and infectious smile brought joy to countless family gatherings and everyday moments. Goonie was also a hardworking man who believed in earning an honest living. He spent many years as a truck driver and took great pride in his work.  His perseverance, resilience, and dedication reflected the kind of man he was.

Family meant everything to Goonie. He was always calling his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, trying to bring everyone together for family cookouts, celebrations, and get-togethers. He believed that time spent with family was time well spent, and he treasured every opportunity to create lasting memories.

Goonie also had a love for good food. If you asked what he wanted to eat, his answer was almost always fried catfish. And no family gathering seemed complete without him asking for banana pudding, one of his favorite desserts. Those simple moments around the table became some of the family’s most cherished memories.

Above all, Goonie adored his family. He was a devoted father to David Tillman III, Darnesha Rosezella Tillman, and Angela Brown. A proud grandfather of Kadence Tillman and Melliano Claudio. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his grandbabies. He also shared a loving and devoted relationship with his companion, Denise Crockett, who stood beside him with love and support.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, grandchildren, devoted companion, loving siblings—Rosezella Jenkins, Carolyn James Hunt (Raymond Hunt), Larry James, Debra James, and Trumale Coleman—along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by his kindness, laughter, and love.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosezella James and David Tillman Sr., and his beloved siblings, Benita James and Steven James.
 

Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in the many wonderful memories Goonie leaves behind. His laughter will echo in our hearts, his love will continue to unite our family, and his spirit will live on in everyone who was blessed to know him. While we will miss him deeply, we are grateful for the gift of his life and the countless moments of joy he shared with us.
