Brenda Joyce Gaines-Cannon

Born in Bay Springs, MS to Charles Miller and Hattie Payton.  Brenda accepted Christ at any early age.  At the age of 16; Brenda moved to Chicago, IL with her father Charles (Ruby).  Brenda graduated from John Marshall High School.  Brenda met and fell in love with James Cannon, and they had 45 wonderful years together.  Brenda enjoyed her life husband as the house was always filled with laughter and jokes.

Brenda worked in a few factories, hospitality as well as a SEIU union trainer.  Brenda enjoyed helping others, being selfless and appreciative of all the wonders of this life.   Brenda also enjoyed designing, gardening and DIY projects.  Brenda was extremely talented in creating a happy space for others.

Brenda after being diagnosed with Sarcoidosis endured years of lung issues that resulted in laser therapies and oxygen.  Brenda had successful double lung transplant surgery at Loyola Hospital.  Afterwards, Brenda never experienced any breathing complications.  Due to medication from the lung transplant Brenda developed Kidney Disease, but her spirit and faith never wavered and she lived a blessed life while doing Dialysis.  Brenda loved her family and friends dearly.  Even with her own sickness she still enjoyed helping other people by being a listening ear and confidant.  Brenda loved helping others, always opening her home with a smile, love, and food.   

On September 15th, 2023, at 10:37 PM, Brenda was called home to be reunited with her loved ones.

Brenda had five siblings that proceeded her in death; Otis Payton and John Payton of Bay Spring, MS; Dwayne, Robert, Anthony and Bonnie all of Chicago, IL. 

Brenda is survived by 10 children: Darryl, Donald. Dewayne (Terri); Michelle, Jamie (Lynese), Lisa, Darin, Andre, Todja and Danelle.  Brenda is also survived by 16 siblings: Peggy (John), Willie and Junior of Bay Springs, MS. Shirley (Earl), Sharron and Diann of Arkansas. Linda (Robert) of California. Charles of Peoria, IL. Greg (Darlene), Dorothy, Brenda, Ann, Michael, Vanessa, Tracy and Niecy of Chicago, IL.  10 grandchildren; 8 great grand-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
